The title of this tree portrait "Mother Oak", is inspired by Dr Suzanne Simard’s book "Finding the Mother Tree." After reading Dr Simard’s work I was able to recognize this oak tree as a mother tree also known as a “hub tree.” Although not in a forest, this oak tree growing beside Georgian Bay in Ontario is surrounded by her seedlings and as per Dr Simard's research connects and communicates with them via the mycorrhizal network. I plan to revisit this spot in the coming years and enjoy seeing how the young oak trees grow and flourish and perhaps one day form an oak forest. By highlighting the sheltering, supportive nature of trees I encourage everyone to increase their positive connections both with trees and each other.
